                                                                     The GrandPals Social at the Kenney

A Grand Pals Social was held at The Kenney on April 19th 2014 from 3:00-4:00 pm with Coffee, tea, and juice/punch from Kenney’s kitchen along with food cookies, desserts provided by the Grandpals (the children). Over thirty residents, and 10 Grandpals, their parents as well as Kenney staff members attended the event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fifteen Interviews were conducted with a preprinted questionnaire by the GrandPals and a sample of Kenney resident’s responses were as follows:

Q8. Can you remember the happiest day of your life? Responses (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14) The day I was married. (66% - 10 of 15 responses)

Q9 What was the saddest day of your life? Responses ( 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13) The day my mate died. (46% - 7 of 15 responses)

Q12 What were you doing when WWII started/ended? Resident responses were as follows:

Was a waitress when it started and during the duration, (3)

9 years old when it started and a school teenager when it ended. (4)

Was in 12th grade in High School when it started and was married when it ended. (5)

Delivering newspapers when it started and in the Navy in the Philippine Islands when it ended. (6)

Heard it on the Radio when it started and was 14 years old when it ended. (11)

Was in High school when it ended. (12)

Working in my meat cutting business when it started and aboard a Navy Ship when it ended. (14)

 

A dinner followed the event at one of the parents’ home for the Grandpals and their parents. Comments heard included one of the residents saying “This is the best event I attended at the Kenney in the 14 years I have been a resident”.
